The Arturo Soria
neighbourhood takes its name from the engineer and urban planner
Arturo Soria y Mata (1844-1920), who had the idea of developing a
linear city which would be built along a main artery, and which
would be 500 metres wide.
The project of Arturo Soria for
a linear city is surprisingly current, and very advanced for the end
of the 19th Century, possibily visionary of our future cities, given
he tried to avoid traffic problems and speculation related to real
estate which normally appears when quality areas are concentrated in
one area. With a wide extension to build along and a good transport
system each area would not be limited to a certain space and could
